Success Starts Here

Don’t Delay! Spring Semester 2010 Registration is now in progress in the ROP Career Center.

“Find a job you like and you add five days to every week”

H. Jackson Browne

As baby boomer parents, we can’t compare the experience we had choosing our careers to the experiences of our children who are looking at potential careers of their own. We graduated from school in a relatively orderly, secure and predictable marketplace.

Changing technology, corporate restructuring and the proliferation of new work opportunities are making your son or daughter’s career decisions less predictable.  The key, however, is to encourage your children to constantly review their interests and discover new opportunities.

What about your child? Does he or she have the skills and experience to survive today’s job market? What about college-bound students? Have they experienced and explored their major field of study to warrant further education advancement in that particular career area?

One way high school students can explore their future is through the Regional Occupational Program (ROP). Capistrano-Laguna Beach ROP is a public educational service that offers career technical educational classes (CTE). Many of the classes include community based internship training in business and industry.  Students can earn certification or college placements and / or credit upon successful completion of certain ROP classes. Classes are taken as elective credit and open to students who are least 16 years of age.

Students and parents are urged to speak with Mrs. Speirs about how this long standing, proven training program can become part of all students’ high school experience. You can reach Mrs. Speirs in the LBHS Career Center, 497-7727 or email sspeirs@lbusd.org.
